A brand new Facebook feature that we’ve been asking for years now, the possibility to edit posts.

Just click on the drop down menu to the top right corner.

And of course, just as comments, clicking on “Edited” shows the edition history.

VLC Player 2.1.0 is out

As I always say, I’m not into software reviewing, but sometimes a software is so awesome that I want to share it with anyone who reads me, and VLC is one of those software. Being the Universal Player (it plays everything), it tends to update very slowly with small new features, codec changes, or video processing, making the new features invisible to the regular user, but with the 2.1.0 finally we see something new.

You can immediately see the huge change to the left bar, with an option to add audio from your Music directory, something that we have been needing since the release of Windows 7. Another thing to notice is the Streaming options, that allows you to subscribe to several streams easily... although I still don’t know how to change the streams services or add/delete if I want to.

One thing I noticed for the first time is the possibility to change the appearance of the icons/songs on the playlist (Icons, Detailed, Album Cover, List).

One of my favorite YouTubers, sWooZie. Just as any YouTuber, he narrates events of his life with funny animations and dialogues... anyway, I like it because I can relate with a lot of his stories. Chrome’s New “Recent Tabs” feature

Chrome updated last week with several new features that completely changed the interface, and of course, some old features were removed. One of these was the “Recent Tabs” option that was shown in the New Tab page, now if you want to access the latest tabs you need to go to the options and click on “Recent Tabs”.

At the end of the menu you’ll see a “More...”, which is only the history and can be accessed trough Ctrl+H.

YouTube adds a library of free background music that you can add to your videos

YouTube added a long time ago a feature to edit videos; you were able to crop, add effects, and modify certain elements of your videos, today one new feature is added: Audio Library.

This new feature allows you to add the songs listed to your video as background music without any charge and or copyright infringement. The feature can be accessed thought the left panel, in “Creation Tools”.

PS: You can also favorite a song for future videos and quick access, or download the songs if you want to as well.

List of Chrome URLs - Omnibox shortcuts

Since the arrival of Chrome, the omnibox has been one of the most useful tools it has; search from there, prediction, autocomplete, calculator, search from other search engines, and more. One of my favorite features is the possibility to type addresses for some Chrome pages such as extensions, plugins, settings, etc. Here are some of these.

• chrome://accessibility

In this page you’ll be able to customize the accessibility options in Chrome for each extension (spoken feedback, high contrast mode, screen magnifier). These options are only available to ChromeBook users.

• chrome://appcache-internals

Here you can check the application’s cache, AKA, offline data.

 

Try the new Google Search Logo and Navigation Menu

Yesterday I posted about some changes that Google was making, or is doing, between one of those is the removal of the top bar, but the navigation menu was still something I’m not seeing, so the guys at Google Operating System showed a way of enabling it right now.

Ok, then, let’s do this. First go to Google.com. You need to open the developer’s console:

• Chrome and Opera: ctrl+shift+J
• Firefox: ctrl+shift+K
• IE: F12

Now, in that console type the following:

New Chrome and Google Appearance

It’s been a while since Google change the appearance of Chrome in beta builds, and the one of the search engine was saw a lot of times around the Internet. Well, today finally the update was completed and can be seen in Chrome and Google.

For starters, this is the new New Tab page on Chrome:

And Google removed the top bar menu completely.

Well, at least on my PC is like that, but the change should be available to everyone soon enough.

Two things to notice:

There is no “Open N closed tabs”, where N is the number of tabs recently closed

The Apps page is now the first bookmark. It can’t be moved or edited, but it can be removed and add it later if you want.

Every Day The Same Dream

One of the best games I’ve ever played; Every Day the Same Dream is a really short and awesome game that works as a critic to current job policies and work environment, where the worker can be fully trapped by the routine and become a slave of it’s job leaving behind all little joys of life.

The cool thing about this game is that it has 6 different endings (listed by the lady in the elevator):

• Sit in your cubicle.
• Walk up the stairs and jump.
• Get out of your car, walk to the next scene, touch the cow, get into your car and then into your cubicle.
• Get out of the elevator, go left and talk to the homeless person.
• Get to your job, but wait until the leaf fall off and pick it up in mid-air.

FINAL ENDING:

Your wife is gone, the lady on the elevator is gone, the homeless guy is gone, no cars on the street, your boss is gone, you coworkers are gone as well, the only person left is you… at the top of the building, at the end of the roof, and jumping when you come close… awesome.

Moral of the story: Putting work before family, or even yourself, doesn’t assure that you’re not going to be alone in the future. Enjoy the little things or else you’ll be left out.

Anti-Virus boot time by Soluto

NOTE: This chart was made by Soluto and posted on their Facebook wall. I have no idea under which conditions the test was made, which were the specs of the PC, which software they used to measure the times, etc. So don’t take this results as literal, instead interpret them as a guide or general idea to base your future AV selection.

YSK how to select several Chrome tabs at the same time

One of Chrome’s unique features is the possibility to create new windows by dragging tabs outside of the current one.

But you can also select a set of tabs instead of just one and create a new window with several tabs instead of dragging one tab at the time.

To do this, just click one tab at the top, press CTRL, and then proceed to click the other tabs you want to select. It also works with SHIFT to select a range of tabs. Exactly like Windows works. You can even close multiple tabs at the same time, but you can’t re-open them by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+T; if you close several tabs at the same time, you need to re-open them one by one.

Nirsoft’s WebBrowserPassView

To me, Nirsoft is one of the best developers out there, his programs are portable, light, simple, ad-free, and straight to the point. You don’t get a program that can do 100 things normally, you get a program that do one thing, and it does it amazingly good. One of most useful tools is called WebBrowserPassView.

This cool program takes care of scanning all the stored passwords on all your browsers; Internet Explorer (Version 4.0 - 10.0), Mozilla Firefox (All Versions), Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera. To use it, just run the program and visible and decrypted passwords will be shown, those encrypted or password protected can’t be shown, and I quote:

• This utility works on any version of Windows, starting from Windows 2000, and up to Windows 8, including 64-bit systems. Older versions of Windows (Windows 98/ME) are not supported, because this utility is a Unicode application.
• Currently, WebBrowserPassView cannot retrieve the passwords if they are encrypted with a master password. Support for master password will probably be added in future versions.
• Currently, WebBrowserPassView cannot retrieve passwords from external hard-drive. Support for that might be added in future versions.
• On Internet Explorer 7.0-9.0, the passwords are encrypted with the URL of the Web site, so WebBrowserPassView uses the history file of Internet Explorer to decrypt the passwords. If you clear the history of Internet Explorer, WebBrowserPassView won't be able to decrypt the passwords.
• On Google Chrome - passwords originally imported from Internet Explorer 7.0-9.0, cannot be decrypted.

Other than that, you’re good to go.

...And What If I'm Wrong? - Theoretical Bullshit

Scott Clifton is an actor, musician, and video blogger that I watch whenever he uploads something (sometimes there are months between uploads), and the guy is an atheist. In fact, this video I’m posting here, … And what if I’m wrong?, is the one that made me finally come out as an atheist, and I love it in every way.

Most people won’t even consider watching it, or even watching the one from DarkMatter2525, but I still hope someone does, since the video is actually about morals and living a good life and barely talks about religion.

Sometimes you just want to spend your day reading something awesome, or seeing a really funny and smart image. Here’s one from TurboSloth called Irrational.

God’s God

One of my favorite YouTube accounts is Darkmatter2525, is an atheist that post awesome and funny videos made in Flash about God and his trusty sidekick, Jeffrey. All videos focus on some aspect of the belief in a god; good and evil, morals, ethics, creation of the world, etc., all showed in a very informative and funny way.

One of the best of his videos is called God’s God, it’s a video that shows how gods are created by other and superior beings, until they get into the one who created them all. Everyone should watch this. Is awesome.

Legend of Korra, Book 2: Spirits

Avatar: The Legend of Korra, Book 2, premiered yesterday afternoon, and I missed it completely. However, I found a torrent with the new episode in HD. Just download it using uTorrent or something and you’re ready to enjoy it.

The new season shows many new characters, such as Korra’s uncle and twin cousins, Tenzin’s brothers, we also get more information about the past of Korra’s father and, hopefully, of some old avatars. The plot will focus on the spirit world that is a mess/unbalanced, and is Korra’s job to balance it again. Her uncle will teach her how to do it on the South Pole, which needs to be fixed ASAP, apparently.

Anyway, the first two episodes were awesome, and I’m sure the rest of them will be awesome too. If you want, here’s the torrent to download the first and second episode again.

“My name is Michael Westen. I used to be a spy.”

I just watched the final episode of Burn Notice, and fuck it, it was amazing. Even though is not that popular, I consider it one of the most awesome series I’ve watched.

The show begun with Michael, a spy for the CIA being burned, this brought him to Miami, where he met with an old friend, a crazy ex-girlfriend, and his mom.

It’s genre was mainly action, but it had some amazing pieces of comedy, drama, and a really deep plot line that can be easily followed.

In the first 6 seasons you get some “spy wisdom”, which are Michael’s monologues telling you common lifehacks and tricks you can use with common items, and even some psychology tricks. Of course, some are not meant to be actually tried out, some are just plain funny, and yet there are many that are 100% useful and can be easily done.

The plot moved away from comedy on the 6th season, on which drama and action started to pour into the characters, and it was considered a “WTF” from fans, but the 7th season made that “WTF” completely worth it. It just blew my mind, and yes, there were many, MANY explosions, just remember is a TV show, not everything is real.

YSK you can add Multimedia buttons to your Razer Mouse

Razer keyboards and mice are amazing, but alone they are only another set of hardware, what makes them awesome is the Razer Synapse, which is a software designed specifically to work with these devices, allowing them to do things beyond their normal capability. I usually use my mouse with macros (specific sequence of keys presses and mouse buttons in a row with a single click), and I can highly improve my performance by doing this, but there are other things that many users don’t, one of this is adding a multimedia feature to your mouse.

Is very easy: when assigning a function to a button, just select Multimedia, and then the function you want to perform.

A thing I realized with this is it will work as the keyboard; the keyboard button and the mouse button will share the same functionality and way of working. Another thing was using a non-multimedia keyboard, that didn’t work, or maybe I was doing it wrong, but still is something to keep in mind when adding this function to your mouse.

The Legend of Korra: Book 2 Livestream

I love TLoK and finally the book 2 is going to be aired tomorrow (September 13), and since I have no idea when it will be aired on LA, I’ll have to use different methods to watch it… like a livestream.

Yes, a Tumblr user, go-team-avatar, set up a livestream for tomorrow at the premiere time. Note that the premiere will be an hour long, making it more awesome.

Get Desktop Notifications for Facebook with Fruumo using Chrome

Use Facebook a lot? Like Chrome? Doesn’t like to keep the browser running all the time? Fruumo is what you need.

First. Chrome can run in the background even when the browser is closed, this was made so people can easily get notifications from extensions or Chrome itself when the browser is not running (this can be disabled in the options).

Second. Fruumo is the extension for you.

 

HTTPS by default on Feedly

This is a short and quick post: Feedly, a RSS Feed reader that is considered a good alternative to Google Reader, it’s trying to live to it’s name by allowing regular (free) users to access it using HTTPS.

If you’re using the Chrome app and not getting the secured protocol, go into the extension options and enable it.

Resetting Chrome to it’s default settings

Many thing happened while my Internet was dead. One of the things I noticed first was that Chrome had 2 major updates while I was gone and it introduced a new amazing feature in one of those: a reset button.

The button is very much needed because the previous way to do it was way more annoying and it took more time… and that previous way is deleting the User Data folder located at

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome

Anyway, if you didn’t know about this, now you do.

Change back Windows’ 8.1 PowerShell to CMD

One of the thing you’ll notice if adopting W8.1 is the change from CMD (command prompt) to Windows PowerShell (I don’t know which are the differences between these 2), but users like me are used to (and prefer) ye ol’ cmd to PowerShell; it looks the same, it does everything that cmd does, but still I’m more comfortable using it.

Of course, you can easily access the command prompt by typing “cmd” in the Run prompt but without admin privileges. The best way to do it on W8 is pressing “Windows key + X”. But on 8.1 will appear PowerShell where cmd it supposed to appear.

To change that back just click on the taskbar properties, then go to the Navigation tab.

In the first section, Corner navigation, uncheck the third option: Replace Command Prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu when I right-click the lower-left corner or press Windows Key+X.

The result, cmd returns.

New Horde Warchief Revealed (WoW)

Today I finally got back into the Internet after three weeks, and the first thing I watch is the horde getting a new Warchief. Massive spoilers, BTW.
