Quick Comparison: Naga 2012 vs. Molten vs. Epic vs. Hex vs. Naga 2014

As you may know by now, there is a new Naga to choose from. Well, I decided to make a quick comparison between all the Nagas existing at this moment and their main physical features, nothing technical.

THUMB GRID BUTTONS

The buttons from each Naga are diverse, it’s obvious that Razer tries to keep them different. The thing that these have in common is that they’re anti-slip and have a back lightning with the color of the mouse.

Side buttons difference.

  • The first set of buttons (Naga 2012 and Naga Molten), green and red, respectively. Buttons located to the left site of the mouse, crazy new idea… useful as fuck.
  • The second set of buttons (Naga Epic) are purple. Unlike the first set, these are “deeper”; the buttons are not “poping up” like the others.
  • The third set of buttons (Naga Hex) is green and red, and unique. Besides being less buttons, these are bigger and placed in a circle for super easy access. These buttons are mechanical.
  • The fourth set of buttons (Naga 2014) is also green. These also seems to popup real nicely, and the mechanical buttons are here to stay. Apparently these offer a better response and return faster for better feedback.

NUMBER OF BUTTONS / BUTTON’S LOCATION

Buttons grid.

From version to version not only the colors change, the buttons may change with them too, allowing gamers to have several choices to fit their style.

  • Naga 2012/Naga Epic: these have 12 buttons on the thumb grid, the scrolling wheel click, the left/right click buttons, and two behind the scrolling wheel. These are 17 buttons in total.
  • Naga Molten: this one also has 12 buttons on the thumb gird, the scrolling wheel click, the left/right click buttons, and the extra two are located to the left side of the left click button. These are 17 buttons in total.
  • Naga Hex: instead of having 12 buttons on the thumb grid, it has only 6, then the scrolling wheel click, the left/right click buttons, and two behind the scrolling wheel. These are 11 buttons in total.
  • Naga 2014: this one have 12 buttons on the thumb grid, the scrolling wheel click, the left/right click buttons, two behind the scrolling wheel, and another two in the scrolling wheel itself; the scrolling wheel can also move sideways, to the left is one click, to the right another one. To an amazing total of 19 fuckin’ buttons.

A thing to notice with the Razer Naga (and all Razer mice), you can configure each button independently, including the functions of the scrolling wheel, except the left click. That is always by default, which is not a bad thing, trust me.

WIRED/WIRELESS

Wired/Wireless

All Nagas are wired with an USB connection. Except the Naga Epic, which can be wired and wireless, and the receptor has an USB connection as well.

COLORS

Naga colors.

Yes, this is a thing. Believe it or not many gamers choose the color that better fit their current needs. Nagas are not rainbows when it comes to color selection, but at least they have 4 choices:

  • Naga 2012/13: Green.
  • Naga Molten: Red.
  • Naga Hex: Green and Red.
  • Naga Epic: Purple by default, but it has a 16 million color backlight illumination (video).

IN-GAME ADDON

Some Nagas offer in-game addons that let you customize the buttons behavior without leaving the game you’re on (of course, this depends of the game). Even though I don’t like it that much, many people do and apparently the only Naga that doesn’t support the addon is the Hex, all the other ones have an addon to work with.

ERGONOMIC SIDE PANEL

Ergonomic features.

The side panel is great, is ergonomic, amazingly confortable, and not that slippery for being plain plastic.

  • The Naga 2012/14 and the Epic allows you to change the size of this ergonomic size. The Molten and Hex won’t allow you to do this.
  • The Naga 2014 won’t have the shiny plastic side, instead it will have a mate painting to add a anti-slip and anti-fingerprint feature.

----

I believe these are the main physical features that matter (yes, even the color), but if you want to get more technical, here are some general features:

  • All Nagas have 5600dpi (dots per inch) Precision 3.5G Laser Sensor, the Naga 2014 a 8200dpi 4G laser sensor. This can be modified with Synapse (from 100 to max).
  • They all have 1ms response time.
  • Zero-acoustic ultraslick mouse feet (it really is silent as fuck).
  • 7 foot / 2 meters cable.

These cover the basics, for more info and cool stuff, go check them by yourself.

If you consider that I left something out or wrong info or just want to add your own opinion, just let me know.
